Marriott Hotel Manila Welcomes New Executives

From back-to-back expansion projects, Marriott Hotel Manila starts off 2018 giving a preview to another exciting year to look forward as two high-caliber professionals join its executive roster - Marian Villar-Barnes as Cluster Director of Human Resources and Erwin King-eo as Loss Prevention Manager. With an integrated hotel complex, they are both expected to keep the hotel on top of its game and prepare for more developments in the future.

Marian is a well-known HR professional with a long credible experience in the industry. She is an active member and held the Vice-president position in the Association of HR Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM). Before joining Marriott, she was the Area Manager of Talent and Culture of Sofitel Manila and concurrently provided support for the pre-opening and post-opening requirements of the Accor Group in the country - significantly the recently acquired Raffles and Fairmont hotels. Her competitive career record can be traced back to her being a sports enthusiast, specifically a volleyball varsity player from grade school all the way to college.

Then, she has been keen in pursuing the hospitality industry right off college starting at Westin Philippine Plaza, where she worked her way up from HR Assistant to HR Manager over a 5-year period, and later became the Director for Human Resources in Oakwood Premier for several years. Her multi-property experiences, including the Cluster Director for HR and Training of the Ascott Philippines Group wherein she handled 5 properties in the Philippines, makes her recommendable for the exciting growth of Marriott in the country. Now she plays a significant role to be the HR Leader for Marriott Hotel Manila and soon-to-open properties Courtyard Iloilo and Sheraton Manila.

Meanwhile, Erwin is a Philippine Military Academy graduate with more than 20 years of experience in security operations. He was assigned in different units of the Philippine Navy and Armed Forces of the Philippines wherein he retired with a Commander rank in the Navy. He played key roles implementing nationwide security programs serving as Military Aide-de-Camp to then former Senate President Manny Villar, Intelligence Officer in AFP and Presidential Security Group, and Chief Officer in the International Affairs of Philippine Navy Headquarters. His most recent job was an Executive Officer in the Office for Defense Reform in the Department of National Defense. Even in his personal time, Erwin enjoys sports a lot and reading or watching combat documentaries. Since Marriott Manila is now a top destination for both local and international events, hosting high-profile events like ASEAN recently, Erwin’s expertise is definitely a valuable addition to the team.

“As we continue to raise the bar of Philippine tourism higher, we also commit to acquiring brilliant talents to deliver nothing but the world-class service,” says Bruce Winton, Cluster General Manager for Marriott Manila and Courtyard Iloilo. GM Winton also guarantees more exciting movements and news to expect from the hotel especially on career opportunities.
