CIMB Bank PH reinforces app security, launches new Money Lock and Emergency Lock features

CIMB Bank Philippines continues to strengthen the security of its mobile banking app amid the rampant digital fraud concerns in the country, protecting customers’ accounts around the clock through multiple layers of security working seamlessly in the background.

According to a recent report by TransUnion, 72% of surveyed Filipino consumers were targeted by digital fraud attempts in the last five months of 2025. More than one-third also reported losing money to digital fraud from the past year, with the average reported loss amount reaching approximately PHP 50,000.

Fraudsters are likewise becoming increasingly sophisticated. The Philippine National Police noted that cybercriminals continued to evolve their tactics in 2025, with job and task scams, online loan scams, and impersonation scams among the most prevalent schemes being monitored.

To address the growing threat of financial scams, the Philippine government has strengthened its response through the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), which mandates the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and financial institutions to better protect the public from financial cybercrime.

As a pioneer in digital banking in the country, CIMB Bank PH strengthens its resolve to enable its 10.6 million customers to bank safely and confidently though its mobile app. Beyond delivering a seamless digital banking experience, the Bank invests in advanced security technologies that safeguard customers’ accounts and personal information.

To protect their accounts, the Bank has top-notch fraud detection capabilities in place 24/7, making use of biometrics for logins, detection mechanisms, and telemetry to monitor and analyze app usage, alongside round the clock customer support to report unauthorized transactions.

With the constant threat of financial fraud, CIMB Bank PH remains committed to keeping customers SAFE through:

Secure access
CIMB Bank PH’s award-winning app has a built-in feature that allows customers to secure their accounts with additional biometric verification whenever there are changes to their profile or device. This first line of defense helps ensure only the actual account holder can get into their account, immediately detecting unauthorized access.

AFASA compliant
The Bank is also fully compliant with the BSP’s security standards, including protections under AFASA, which includes advanced money tracing capabilities to help keep accounts secure against the risk of online scams, fraud, and unauthorized transactions. The Bank monitors how, when, and where the app is being used in order to flag fraudulent activity.
