Director Jorge R. Gutierrez's love for family, tradition and storytelling created a truly singular, a first of its kind animation in "The Book of Life" where it will reveal never-before-seen characters and will take the audience in three fantastical worlds - the town of San Angel, The Land of the Remembered and The Land of the Forgotten. "The Book of Life" is also about remembrance and cherishing memories composed of a voice cast led by Channing Tatum, Diego Luna and Zoe Saldana, along with multi-talented actors Christina Applegate, Kate Del Castillo, Ice Cube and Ron Perlman. In the movie, following Maria’s (Saldana) return to San Angel, she is reunited with her best friends Manolo (Luna) and Joaquin (Tatum) at the bullfighting arena, where Manolo is preparing for his first match. Manolo, like all the Sanchez men who preceded him, battles bravely and skillfully. But unlike his forebears, when the moment comes for Manolo to finish the bull, he refuses. The ...

Like all good books, that first sentence, that first burst of an author’s voice will dictate the rest of your journey through the subsequent pages. Movies are no different, where the first image or the first sound of a character’s voice will instantly transport you into the world on screen. In the new animated fantasy-adventure “The Book of Life,” that first burst of color is provided by what looks like an ordinary museum. But audiences will find a world beyond their imagination right through those doors. Film and television star Christina Applegate opens up and leads audiences into a tale that does everything but go by the book in "The Book of Life." As the mysterious tour guide named Mary Beth, she seems to have been awarded the thankless task of guiding a group of rowdy kids who would rather be anywhere else but on a museum tour. Yet, the charming Mary Beth has something special in store for them, escorting them into a secret room that houses the powerful magic of ...

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike portray the role of their lives in the grittiest thriller of the year in "Gone Girl," based on the bestselling tome of Gillian Flynn brought to life onscreen by renowned filmmaker David Fincher. Affleck and Pike play Nick and Amy Dunne respectively who personify the quintessential romantic match and modern married couple. But on the day of their fifth year wedding anniversary, Amy curiously disappears. Her vanishing becomes a kind of hall of mirrors in which tantalizing and savage secrets lead to even more tantalizing and savage secrets. The events that unfold are thick with shocks and complications, but the questions that remain are what cut, with razor-sharp precision, to the bone: Who is Nick? Who is Amy? Who are any of us in marriages -- and a society -- built on a precarious base of projected images and disguises? Taking the alternately guarded and exposed role is Ben Affleck. Says Fincher of casting him: “Putting a cast together is l...
