UNILAB ACTIVE HEALTH IS SET WITH BIGGER EVENTS ON RUN AND TRIATHLON

2012 IS A LEAP YEAR FOR UNILAB ACTIVE HEALTH WITH BIGGER EVENTS

Building on the success of the series of events that Unilab Active Health has organized since 2010, Unilab Laboratories, Inc. (Unilab) accelerates further its campaign in 2012 for an active lifestyle with bigger and more exciting banner events: Run United, a running event, Tri United, a triathlon race, and Bike United, a cycling race.
As the leading pharmaceutical and healthcare company in the Philippines, Unilab has always set the trail in helping Filipinos live a healthier lifestyle. The Unilab Active Health sports programs are envisioned to provide avenues to Filipino families to be inspired, to take interest or become more committed in leading an active and healthy lifestyle with the help of sports such as running, cycling, and triathlon. The Unilab Active Health events were carefully designed with race experts and coaches to help Filipinos sustain and pursue an active lifestyle all year round.
“When we did the first Run United in 2010, we said that we wanted to organize an event that will provide an opportunity for families to get into sports while at the same time have a bonding moment together. After organizing ten legs for the last two years, we see more and more families joining - from toddlers 5 years old and up to senior adults. This is quite fulfilling. It is for this reason that we find ourselves even more committed in organizing bigger and better events,” says Alex Panlilio, Unilab Active Health head.
And true enough, 2012 promises to unveil more exhilarating firsts in the Active Health events starting off with the introduction of its partners in three sports namely, running, triathlon and cycling, who will serve as mentors to coach and motivate the new breed of fitter and healthier Filipinos.

Representing the running community is Coach Rio dela Cruz - an accomplished runner and Race Director of Runrio Inc. - one of the country's premier race organizer. He has competed in several international marathons in New York, Boston, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and New Zealand. He makes it a point to apply his learning from these events to his own events in the Philippines to help continuously provide a better running experience to his race participants.

She has finished a number of marathons here and abroad, including the Hong Kong Marathon, Singapore Marathon, ING New York City Marathon, and California International Marathon. She shares her passion for the sport in her widely followed blog (www.thebullrunner.com), and fitness magazine of the same name. She is also the founder and race director of The Bull Runner Dream Marathon, the first and only marathon in the Philippines that is specially designed to help runners finish their first ever dream marathon.
Among cyclists and triathletes, Raul Cuevas is considered as “The Master”. He is a veteran long-distance triathlete, Ironman finisher, and former coach of the Philippine National Triathlon Team. The Bike United and Tri-United partner is the man behind Bike King, a group that coaches cyclists, organizes cycling events across the country, and makes cycling peripherals and gear available, in the hopes of getting more people into the sport.

Power couple Dan and Ani Brown are the partner-athletes from the triathlon community. Dan "the Ultraman" Brown, is a 15-time Ironman finisher and the former coach of the Philippine National Triathlon Team. Among her many notable achievements, Ani set the benchmark for local triathletes as the first ever Filipina to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. She is also a triathlon coach and race director or ironkids.
People at Unilab Active Health practice what they preach. The managers I've met and even the CEO, Clinton Hess, are athletes and they train despite their heavy workload,” Jaymie added. “The Active Health campaign is borne from a sincere desire to promote a healthier lifestyle because they themselves have seen the positive changes it has made in their lives.”
Ani echoes this statement. “Unilab has done a great job with the Run United races in the past years— they’re very involved and I can see their commitment in improving the quality of their races,” she said. “I’m sure this year’s Active Health sports program will be even better and extremely beneficial for the local running, cycling, and triathlon communities, as well as for people who are interested in getting into these sports,” added Dan.
We feel honored to be chosen by Unilab Active Health as partner-athletes,” Raul said. “We look forward to training and coaching the growing number of people who are now focusing more attention into their lifestyle and wellness, thanks to Unilab’s support.”
Watch out for Unilab Active Health’s events for the first half of 2012: Run United sprints on March 4 and June 17, and Tri United races on April 14-15 in Batangas, and June 30-July 1 in Bataan. Unilab Active Health is also an active title sponsor of this year’s The Bull Runner Dream Marathon, which will be held on March 18. And to help grow the multi-sport community further, running and triathlon clinics are scheduled throughout the year.
For those who are serious about running, something to look forward to is UNILAB Active Health's first ever Run United Philippine Marathon slated on October 28.
