It also boasts transcripts of OBG’s interviews with the country’s top influencers and game players, with Pres. Benigno Aquino III as the front liner.
The report also contains detailed analysis on the growth of the Philippine economy that is mainly driven by consumer oriented industries and construction. Although the average pace of growth in the Philippines decreased in 2014 to 6.1%, it consistently surpasses most of its regional peers, specifically Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand that only grew at average paces of more than 5.5%. On the other hand, only three countries with higher GDP per capita across Asia grew faster than the Philippines.
With the rise in its growth rate, business activity and consumer expenditures, the Report asserts that the Philippines should be one of the countries that investors should keep an eye on.
Since the initial launch of The Report: The Philippines in 2013, ArdentComm has helped OBG steadily built up the media and consumer interest in the much-anticipated yearly report.

Pasig City, May 15, 2015 – For Filipinos, food and celebrations are inseparable. Nothing seems to reinforce the social bonds better than occasions made memorable by the company of family and close friends.
As a country, we are known for having many holidays. These holidays are used as a reason to come together to enjoy each other’s company and renew the bonds between each member. And while we have a penchant for celebrating even ordinary occasions, there are few occasions that we always mark in a big way.
Over the years, Red Ribbon’s cakes, breads, and pastries have become a staple of these major celebratory occasions and make family get-together more memorable. These cakes and pastries have somehow become the perfect ending to any celebratory meal whether it is a feast tbbhat’s grand or meal that is simple.
As soon as the “ber” months start, we know that the Christmas season is upon us. Beginning September, we already begin counting down the days to December 25. As the air begins to chill, we anticipate every party we attend, look forward to every get together and get excited as Christmas Eve draws near. Come the evening of December 24, we welcome Christmas with a feast fit for a king. As is our custom, the table is almost always filled to overflowing usually with food that would take hours to prepare. Morcon, Christmas ham, turkey, fruit salad and lechon are just some of the food commonly served during noche buena. After the meal, gifts are exchanged and the ties that bind are renewed.
New Year Eve
Filipinos do things in a big way. It is no surprise that we like to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a great deal of fanfare. New Year’s Eve is an occasion where we welcome the coming year with the customary fireworks display in an effort to drive away the spirits of the previous year. Like all our big celebrations, we gather friends and loved ones with a feast. The dining table is usually filled with the most sumptuous food and the most glorious desserts. New Year’s Eve celebrations are marked by the sharing of a meal, gifts and conversation among family members. It is a time when we throw out the old ways to make way for the new.
Every second Sunday of May is a day we always find reason to celebrate. It is a day we honor the most important women in our lives: our mothers. It is no surprise that families meet up, give gifts and share food, good conversation and memories about how wonderful our mothers are. While not as big a celebration as Christmas and New Year, Mother’s Day celebrations always give families a reason to come together and share a meal and memories and thank our mothers for always being there.
If May is the month wherein we celebrate the love we have for our mothers, June is the month where we pay tribute to our dads. Like Mother’s Day, we find the time to meet up over a meal and more importantly, thank our fathers for providing for all of us in the family. And like any celebration, gifts and food are shared among one another in the family.
Birthdays are perhaps the most personalized celebration of all. Some celebrate alone but being a society with close family ties, most birthday celebrations are done with the family in full attendance. The food we serve during birthdays also takes on special meaning. Noodles or pasta is one common fare during birthday parties because it means long life and prosperity.
February 14 is what many consider a day for lovers to celebrate. Flowers and chocolates are synonymous to this day. However, over the years, Filipinos have come to t reat this day as a day to be with family and friends. After all, who says February 14 is only for lovers? While this day may not be as grandly celebrated as Christmas, New Year’ or Mother’s Day, we still make it a point to gather the people near and dear to us and celebrate with a meal that is shared and served with love.
Indeed, these celebratory occasions are demonstrative of the close-knit family ties we Filipinos have and moreover, how family, occasion, and food are shared among one another. These are the hallmarks that define our culture and have added color our heritage for many generations now.
Globalization is absolutely a double-edged sword and Filipino small and medium enterprises must roll with the punches to face foreign competition especially when the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic integration.
"With the ASEAN integration and rate of globalization, SMEs here in the Philippines should be prepared to face competition from other countries. Gone are the days where SMEs are just limited are just limited by local competition," said Armando Bartolome, president of GMB.
"It is a must for AFFI to double its efforts. Entry of foreign brands is definitely a threat and challenge," Bartolome added.
On the other hand, Bartolome said globalization can also provide greater opportunities for SMEs to tap potential markets overseas.
In response to the challenges of the economic union, Bartolome said AFFI has introduced various programs to help SMEs to be more productive and competitive.
The programs are open house, monthly forum, business networking, AFFI-organized shows, business clinics and online trainings.
Bartolome stressed that more and more SMEs are joining AFFI. "SMEs are definitely hungry in looking for an organization to spearhead and provide practical tools in growing and enhancing the businesses," said Bartolome.
Although the programs are in place, he said AFFI is facing challenges in monitoring the performance of the SMEs.
Bartolome noted AFFI wants to reach out to more SMEs that need their assistance."To be able to expand the coverage, we plan to establish an online training," he said.
He said there is a need to establish a business clinic to follow and assess the performance of the SMEs. "We want to make sure that they don't get stucked when SMEs are implementing the things they have learned from AFFI," Bartolome said.
He said AFFI also shares the experiences from its pool of 140 business owners. "Each company and individual has a different story to share its success and challenges as well.
In line of giving more support to entrepreneurs, AFFI will establish more programs and build awareness on its 2015 roadmap. AFFI opened its membership to entrepreneurs this year.
"We have intensified our partnership with other organizations such as Go Negosyo and explored new partnerships like NRCO to reach more entrepreneurs," said Bartolome.
Glenn Yu, CEO of SEAOIL, said entrepreneurs are agents of empowerment because they can create a difference to the lives of many people.
"Entrepreneurs are also able touch lives through the products and services that they are selling," said Glen Yu.
SEAOIL joined AFFI 2006. During that time, SEAOIL pushed vigorously to expand its retail network nationwide.
By joining AFFI, SEAOIL was able to expand its network. "We have met a number of our current franchise events organized by AFFI. Some co-members have also setup branches inside our stations, such as Julie's, Binalot, and Bibingkinitan," said Glenn Yu.
On the part of Mr. Jerry llao, president of Ink All You Can, he pointed out that AFFI has enabled the company to grow.
"These activities provide venues where members meet prospective business partners, and as members share their best practices among each other, each of us grows individually and become more capable in running our respective enterprises," he said.

Marriott Manila announced that it is unveiling Meetings Imagined (MeetingsImagined.com) and its Meeting Services App to events planners and organizers. The two digital innovations are the first-of-their-kind in the industry and are intended to assist the planner, from inspiration through execution.
Meetings Imagined is an online platform modeled on the user-friendly Pinterest.com and the Chinese Huaban.com online forum. Meetings Imagined provides expert tips on everything related to meetings, including networking activities, maximizing social media exposure and how to create the right meeting environment. Meetings Imagined also includes the latest meeting trends and hundreds of inspirational images to spark creativity. Marriott International’s research discovered that there are seven purposes for meetings: celebrate, decide, educate, ideate, network, produce and promote. Meetings Imagined allows meeting planners to design their meeting with the purpose in mind; the website is curated around these purposes and the component building blocks of meetings - setup, food & drink, tech & supplies, and experiences.
In addition to the website, event planners can collaborate on event creation with Marriott International’s Meetings Imagined specialists who are available in 11 Asia-Pacific markets. “Marriott International has been studying the way planners interface with hotels when they organize events. We have mapped out the planners’ journey, from the moment they have a need for a meeting, all the way through to how they search, book, plan and design the meeting. We aspire to provide something different to address the milestones – and pain points – in the planners’ journey.” said Ms. Peggy Fang Roe, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Asia Pacific at Marriott International. “Meetings Imagined is a unique approach to help planners and organizers to design more inspiring and engaging meeting experiences for their delegates based on the purpose of the meeting.” Meetings Imagined will be launching across approximately 100 properties throughout Asia Pacific from April 2015 onwards. It is available in six languages: English, Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Russian.
Marriott’s Meeting Services App called Red Coat Direct is a continuation of Marriott International’s innovation in technology, spaces and services, and builds upon the brand’s existing offerings. The app provides real-time connectivity to Marriott for meeting planners and features a wide range of functions. This includes a chat facility to connect MICE organizers with Marriott’s event team throughout the planning and execution process, and allows Marriott to respond immediately to any issues or requests, and to inform the planner of how the request is being handled.
