Drop_teaser poster art

The discovery of an abandoned and abused puppy leads a lonely bartender out of his constricted world in "The Drop," a riveting journey through a rarely seen side of working-class Brooklyn. The first film written by best-selling author Dennis Lehane, "The Drop" sets an unusual love story against the volatile backdrop of organized crime’s unbreakable grip on the small pubs and taverns used as money-laundering “drops.”

Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) slings drinks in his Cousin Marv’s (James Gandolfini in his final performance) bar and looks the other way whenever Brooklyn crime bosses use the place as a temporary bank for their ill-gotten gains. He keeps to himself, attending Mass daily at the old neighborhood parish church, but never taking Communion.

Bob’s simple life becomes much more complicated when he discovers a battered pit bull puppy in a trash can. Turning to his neighbor Nadia (Noomi Rapace) for help, he nurses the puppy back to health, as their mutual concern for the dog sparks an unexpected attraction between them. But when Eric Deeds (Matthias Schoenaerts), the dog’s original owner and Nadia’s abusive ex-boyfriend, tries to reclaim both of them, and a robbery at the bar puts Bob in the crosshairs of the Chechen crime boss who owns it, Bob is forced to face the shocking truth about the people he thinks he knows best—including himself.

To direct the movie, the producers selected Michaël R. Roskam, a Belgian with one feature film to his credit: "Bullhead," a dark thriller about a brooding and dangerous loner that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 2011.

“It was such a strong debut for a director,” says executive producer Larocca. “The way he handled the cast made it really clear that this is a guy who knows how to work with actors. Our script has rich and deeply complex characters, so we needed someone we knew could work with actors to draw out truly extraordinary performances.”

The success of Roskam’s first feature was rapidly opening doors for the director in Hollywood, and he gave careful consideration to the choices he was offered. “This is the first time I have directed a film from a script I didn’t write,” Roskam says. “One of the things that drove my decision was that I wished I had written it. I knew it was the story for me. It was extremely well-written and plot-driven, but with the kind of complex character development that appeals to me.”

"The Drop" will open in cinemas soon from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros. Trailer link here,

ki hong lee as minho in MAZE RUNNER

Korean actor Ki Hong Lee has obviously set a firm pace to stardom starring opposite Dylan O'Brien in the upcoming book adaptation of "The Maze Runner." By the looks of it, the recently concluded Greenies Screening in the Phils. had the girls giggling after the movie, charmed by his notable presence and performance in the movie.

Thomas (O'Brien) wakes up in a lift, moving slowly upward. As the box grinds to a halt and the doors open, he finds himself among a colony of boys who welcome him to the Glade – a large open expanse surrounded by enormous concrete walls. Thomas’ mind is blank. He has no knowledge of where he is, doesn’t know where he came from, and he can’t remember his parents, his past, or even his own name.

Thomas and his fellow “Gladers” don’t know how or why they got to the Glade. Thomas learns that each resident of the Glade has a role to play, from gardening to construction to being one of the elite runners who map the walls of the Maze that keep them captive and change configurations every night. Maze Runners race the clock to cover as much ground as possible before the end of the day when theMaze locks down and the deadly biomechanical Grievers roam the corridors of the concrete structure.

the maze runner_ki hong lee poster art

The elite among the Gladers are called Runners, whose athleticism propels them through the Maze each day, which helps them compile a map of the foreboding structure and, maybe, figure out a way to escape. Their captain is Minho, played by Ki Hong Lee. The young actor grew to understand his position of leadership among the Gladers in a very individual way. “I looked at the Marines and the Army and, and I consider Minho like a general of the Gladers,” Lee explains, “It’s his job to rally the troops.”

Running through the massive walls which is both industrial and ancient in construction, Minho along with Thomas, runs into the Maze everyday and goes back to the Glade to bring back hope and memorizes each run so he can piece together the intricate and ever changing structure of the Maze. "Minho doesn't say much - he just runs fast which makes him invaluable for solving the riddle of the maze. He's an Indiana Jones-type adventure dude," says director Wes Ball. "He's the fastest, most bad-ass guy who goes out into the Maze everyday. He's kind of a mysterious guy, but will eventually open up too."

Ki Hong Lee (Minho) began acting in middle school, performing in church skits, and he grew to love the stage and maintains a passion for theater. Lee recently played the much-beloved character Paul in ABC Family’s "The Nine Lives Of Chloe King," and took part in the film adaptation of "Yellowface," from the Tony Award®-winning playwright David Henry Hwang. Additionally on stage he debuted at Los Angeles’ East West Players in a play called "Wrinkles," which was the first time his father was able to see Lee perform, so the play remains very special to him.

In his personal life, Lee has a passion for people, education and good causes. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he has served in some form of student government from middle school through college. Raised in different cultures, from Seoul to Auckland, Lee considers himself to be a California soul at heart, and could not continue life without good Mexican food in regular doses. He also enjoys sports, particularly basketball, football and tennis. His favorite football team – the Dallas Cowboys.

"The Maze Runner" sprints in cinemas nationwide this September 17 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

In the vein of high-adrenaline action-packed films such as "Narc," "Catch .44" and "Frozen Ground," prolific producer Randall Emmett pits Jason Patric againts Bruce Willis in the upcoming movie "The Prince."

“Bruce really fell for the material, as well as Jason, and then John (Cusack) came on board and I felt that actors of this caliber would bring something really special to the characters and to the story of a man having to face his old demons when his daughter disappears in the same crime universe that he used to live in.” says Emmett.

Jason Patric stars as Paul Brennan, a widowed family man who goes to New Orleans to track down his missing daughter. The truth of her disappearance is hard for him to take and forces him to confront his own criminal past. Living under the radar for 20 years, Paul operates as a mechanic whose daughter, Beth (Gia Mantegna), attends college all the way across the country. But when he soon learns that Beth's tuition has not been paid, he flies immediately to Lousiana to check on her despite his worst fears. As Paul finds her way to Beth, he found her best friend Angela (Jessica Lowndes) and takes her where she's last seen Beth.

Unknown to Paul, tracking down Beth means going through the path where he will eventually catch up with his past once again. As they go through and past bullets looking for Beth, Paul finally comes face to face with an old enemy, Omar (Willis) - the city's most powerful man whose family he mistakenly killed 20 years back. It is then revealed that Paul is a former mob enforcer two decades ago. “I play a single father who all of a sudden finds out that his daughter has disappeared, and in searching for her discovers she has a secret life,” explains Patric. “As the story unfolds, you find out Paul also had a secret life. I think we all have our pasts, parts of ourselves that we hide, for our betterment we believe. With every character I always find those parts of myself that I understand or that I have lived. In this case there is a darkness that this man has buried because he wants to have something better.”

"Paul is the ultimate father, a tough guy but also a teddy bear deep down inside," explains Gia Mantegna who plays Beth, Paul's wayward daughter who runs with the wrong crowd when she leaves home for college. "Beth is the driving force for Paul’s return to New Orleans where he is forced back to his old territory and faces his enemies."

"The Prince is an incredible action thriller, but at the same time there is a heart in there," concludes director Brian Miller. "There is the revenge that Omar has been seeking over the last twenty years and has built up through to the big finale at the end. And there's the very realistic father daughter relationship that I think people are going to relate to. Like a lot of people, Paul and his daughter had a very disconnected relationship. When he goes on this journey, it brings them closer together. It’s also a wakeup for all the characters who go through their own personal arcs. When people walk away at the end of this movie they are going to be blown away."

"The Prince" opens in theaters nationwide on September 10 from Axinite Digicinema.

“The Maze Runner” is set to turn things in a dizzying blur as the teenage captives in a virtual prison known as The Glade run for a chance to save their lives. Headed by “Teen Wolf’s” heartthrob Dylan O’Brien along with a group of talented young actors including Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee and Blake Cooper, “The Maze Runner” is directed by Wes Ball based on James Dashner’s hugely successful (trilogy) tome.

Twentieth Century Fox Panel at 2014 Comic-Con

At this year's Comic Con, the cast attests that the movie will be shocked on how the book’s famous baddies known as the Grievers, were depicted. Director Ball further stressed that the audience will definitely be in for a pretty terrifying ride.

Published in October 2009, “The Maze Runner” became a New York Times Best Seller and captured the imaginations of readers around the world, who described it as a combination of “Lord of the Flies,” “ The Hunger Games,” and the legendary television series “Lost.” Dashner understands those comparisons, especially to Lord of the Flies, but notes that THE MAZE RUNNER is at its heart a very different story. “I don’t think characters would react they way they do in Lord of the Flies,” he explains. “I think they’d be more civilized, orderly, and determined to survive and escape. THE MAZE RUNNER is an adventure story that’s also about hope and the potential of the human spirit.”

The book caught the attention of producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman from the management/production company The Gotham Group. “We see a lot of young adult novels,” Stollman explains. “And you always look for something that has a big world creation with characters that are identifiable and something we haven’t seen before,” which is what they found in Dashner’s book.

Leading man Dylan agrees, "That’s something that might separate this, I think, being like one of those YA movies that are coming out. I so genuinely don’t think it’s like that. It totally exists in its own right and like he said, it could easily be taken as a kid’s movie just objectively, but there is a real sense- there’s this gravitas to it It’s really, really mature in that aspect of performances and just the story."

Reflecting on the story’s appeal, Dashner notes that much of it stems from the “constant state of not being able to predict what’s going to happen next. I wanted my readers, and now the moviegoing audience, to feel like Thomas when they enter the Glade.”

Bruce Willis leads a venerable group of veterans and newcomers in “The Prince,” a non-stop action film that forces a retired crime boss back into the seedy underworld he’d left behind. For twenty years Paul Brennan (Patric), a retired New Orleans crime boss, has lived a quiet life off the grid, running an auto repair garage in remote Mississippi. When his teenage daughter Beth goes missing, Paul is forced to return to the city and face his former enemies including Omar (Willis), the city’s most powerful man whose family he mistakenly took out, in an explosive final standoff that may offer redemption for Paul’s past mistakes.

Prolific producer, Randall Emmett (“2 Guns,” “Escape Plan”) read the script and immediately knew it was a winner in the vein of his previous action packed movies. “Bruce really fell for the material, as well as Jason, and then John came on board and I felt that actors of this caliber would bring something really special to the characters and to the story of a man having to face his old demons when his daughter disappears in the same crime universe that he used to live in.” says Emmett.

As each new bit of information gets Paul closer to Beth, it also exposes him to Omar (Bruce Willis), “a very powerful man in the city of New Orleans who put a price on Paul’s head the day Paul mistakenly killed Omar’s wife and daughter,” explains director Brian Miller. “Like Open Range or Unforgiven, this is a modern day western where this gun slinger’s daughter goes missing in this city where he is a wanted man.”

“Bruce is an old school pro that can just turn on the charm; I would whisper in his ear and wound him up a little bit, and then just let him go,” recalls Miller, of the character that does little to hide his thirst for vengeance. Omar, finely dressed with an air of power about him, tightens his grip on the phone, as a car follows Paul’s Explorer through an industrial part of town. The voice on the other end assures Omar that everyone in the bar knew The Prince the second he walked in the door.

Director Brian A. Miller plants the audience firmly in the gritty underworld of revenge seeking gangsters with the action-thriller The Prince, which shot on locations throughout Mobile, Alabama. “I have to say, the production value that we got from Mobile is quite spectacular,” says Miller enthusiastically of the city that turned itself into a back lot and doubled as New Orleans for a large portion of the shoot. Adds producer Randall Emmett, “Brian fell in love with Mobile and thought it was just ideal for The Prince. The city worked with us and the community really embraced us, so it made our production really work.”

More of Willis in action when “The Prince” opens on September 10 in cinemas nationwide from Axinite Digicinema.

Energizer Night Run @ Alabang City

After the last year’s “glowing race” with thousands of runners in the Greater Manila area, people can experience again the one-of-a-kind fun run as Energizer opens Night Race Manila 2014.

Energizer’s night race is the perfect fit especially for those who love running but do not like the heat. Just like the past years, this event in September will also create a night of lights as the runners beam up the race route in Filinvest City Alabang produced by the Energizer 3LED Headlights which is part of their running gear.

The Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World is a Global series of nighttime running events where participants race by the light of an Energizer headlight to raise awareness for the need for safe, clean solar lighting around the world. First launched in South Africa in 2007, the race has become a well-established event taking place in Argentina, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and of course, Philippines. The event is a great occasion to engage with our target market (families) in a fun and entertaining way. Not only is this a fun run, the Energizer Night Race has been a venue to spread Positivenergy by contributing to local and international causes as part of our responsibility in making a positive impact around us.

Cara Ramirez-Tecson, Energizer Philippines, Inc. Marketing Manager explained the advocacy saying they are offering the run not just for the beneficiaries but for the runners too.

“We would like this year’s run to be a venue of fun and excitement for everyone who will join, so we’re focusing on their enjoyment this time more than anything else,” she said.

“Beyond the beneficiaries, we will focus on our goal to provide that “fun” for the runners so we can radiate the positivenergy to everyone “said Tecson.

Though the press kits include a headlight that is worth P499, organizers of the event still made the run more affordable for runners with the price registration ranging from P600 for 3k runners, P700 for 5k and P800 for 10k runners.

Lady Reyes, Energizer Philippines, Product Manager for Lights & Specialty said “with the prices made very affordable, we are inviting everyone to come and join us in this event. This is a good venue to bond with families and friends as we spread positive energy.”

"As a company we believe in coupling international and local marketing initiatives and we’re increasingly enjoying success, fuelled from extending our marketing efforts towards more community based activations that seeks to couple traditional advertising efforts with a positive and relevant cause that has some benefit in the community," Todd Montgomerie, Energizer Phils. Managing Director shared.

"This will be our 5th night race in The Philippines in a 4 year period, and our second to be held in Manila area. In alignment with our brand value of “positive energy” we hope that the 2015 Energizer night Race will once again encourage friends, family, colleagues and other energetic and willing participants to engage in and display positive healthy energy by running either the 3, 5 or 10km course as their own positive energy levels permit. We will make it more positive we hope by again donating to the Kapuso foundation," Montgomerie said.

Tecson shared that since the Night Race was held in the Philippines, "we have donated hearing aid devices with Energizer Hearing Aid batteries to kids of the Kapuso Foundation, Solar Lights to thousands of homes in the country without electricity through the One Million Lights project, and this year batteries and lights again to our partner GMA Kapuso Foundation using part of the proceeds from the Night Race Kits sales."

We hope that through the Energizer Night Race, we spread Positivenergy while keeping the fun and enjoyment amongst the run enthusiasts. Layunin po namin na makapagbigay ng maayos, ligtas at masayang run event para sa lahat, at syempre po – makatulong sa mga less fortunate through Kapuso Foundation. It is our aim to provide a clean, safe and fun run while we are also able to help other people," Tecson adds.

The registration will start on August 2, 2014 at official registration sites including RUNNR at Bonifacio Global City, Alabang Town Center and Brooks SM North Edsa Annex.

Details of the event registration are also available on Energizer’s website and

Entitled, “Pudsey: The Movie,” it follows the titular dog and his siblings Molly (Izzy Meikle-Smith), George (Spike White) and Tommy (Malachy Knights) as they move to the village of Chuffington-on-Sea with their mother Gail (Hynes).

Nick Moore will direct the family film from a screenplay by Paul Rose. Vertigo Films’ Rupert Preston, Allan Niblo and James Richardson are producing with co-producer Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.

“We are thrilled to be working with Vertigo Films and Syco Entertainment to bring Britain’s Got Talent’s Pudsey to the big screen,” said Content Film president Jamie Carmichael. “And we’re really looking forward to making Pudsey the most famous dog in the world.”

“Pudsey is absolutely irresistible – and draws you in immediately,” said Preston. “This is a heartwarming story, which audiences will flock to and we are hugely excited to release the film wide in the UK.”

Voiced by David Walliams, the lovable mutt is smitten with his newfound family despite being independent for a long time. Untamed and adjusting to a whole new environment, he causes chaos in the village but foils the wicked schemes of a dastardly landowner (an enjoyably preposterous John Sessions).

“Pudsey The Movie” will open on August 27 exclusively in SM Cinemas nationwide from Silverline Inc.

“The Canyons” documents five twenty-something's quest for power, love, sex and success set in the year 2012 in Hollywood. The filmmakers partly financing the film themselves through Pope’s new company Sodium Fox in order to maintain complete creative control of the distinct source material. According to Schrader, “We all experienced the frustrations of financing and institutional censorship. But now, with advances in digital photography and distribution, we can tell a story in the manner we choose. Movies are changing and we’re changing with it.”

“The Canyons” tells the searing indictment of Hollywood culture and the year's most controversial film. Young trust-fund baby Christian (James Deen) is working on financing a horror film simply to keep his dad off his back. His girlfriend-turned-plaything Tara (Lindsay Lohan) is helping him with casting, and his producer, Gina, is trying to get her boyfriend Ryan the lead role. But unbeknownst to Christian and Gina, Ryan and Tara were once a couple, and as soon as the two meet again at an audition, their romance is rekindled. When Christian discovers that Tara has been having an affair, he begins to play a series of cruelly escalating mind games with both Ryan and Tara, leading to an act of violence from which there can be no redemption. Featuring fearless and unprecedented performances from its young cast, “The Canyons” is a thought-provoking examination of privilege run amok.

“The Canyons” will open in cinemas on August 13 from Crystalsky Multimedia. Check out the film’s trailer at this link:

SAVAGED photo

Amanda Adrienne makes her feature film debut in “Savaged” where she takes on the role of Zoe, a deaf girl is brutalized by a murderous gang who are then hunted by her when the bloodthirsty spirit of an Apache warrior inhabits her lifeless body.

Her character Zoe tells her mother that she wants to move in with her long distance boyfriend, her mother is reluctant to let her drive by herself since her daughter is deaf and unable to call for assistance. Despite her reservations, Zoe's mother allows her to go alone, which proves to have disastrous consequences when Zoe is abducted, brutally raped by several rednecks and left for dead when a Native American rescues her. Now empowered with mystical spirits, Zoe returns for violent revenge on her attackers.

In preparing for the physical demands of the role, Adrienne revealed in previous interviews that she studied Wushu for nine months for the fight scenes. “It’s definitely mostly physical and emotional scenes but you just have to put yourself in it and go for it. But before taking on this role, I also went to Playhouse West for two year, studied Meisner and I’m not at Ivana Chubbuck Studio,” shares Adrienne of her preparation for the movie.

The movie’s director Michael Ojeda sees the movie as a supernatural action movie with lots of horror elements. Filmed with a modest budget, Ojeda shares that “I’m old school in a way. I’d rather use as many practical effects as I could. If I could’ve flipped a real car I would have. That would’ve been the way to do it, and then composite her in front of it. Compositing, I don’t see that as CGI. Compositing is compositing. If you flip a real car, slide her in there and rotoscope her out after the car is flipped or before, then you’ve got yourself a shot that really looks real. So we had to go with visual effects for this film but hopefully for the next we can do more practical.”

“Savaged” opens this August 6 in cinemas nationwide from CrystalSky Multimedia.

Condos aren’t mansions, but they are a perfect lifestyle fit for some, especially the younger generation that's always on the go. Sure, it’s less space, but they’re chock full of goodness. Condominiums you say? Nay. They are Condomaximums!

Here's a few reasons why condo-living rocks:

Living in a condo building you’ll naturally be around more people. Since units are closer together and there are many more common areas like party rooms, fitness centers, and pools, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet your neighbors and kick it.

You’re a mover and a shaker. You need to be knee-deep in the action and the condo life brings you closer to restaurants, bars, theaters, and many other city-centric events and shows. In a country full of commutes, you’ll perpetually be less than 20 minutes away from everything.

A condo is like life before kids. It used to be so easy to spontaneously decide to go to dinner and drinks with the wife. 3 kids later? It takes 25 minutes just to get in the car. That’s a house. You can’t just leave a house. A condo though? Lock it up and head to Europe for a month.

Condos feature amenities for all residents including recreational facilities, fitness centers, as well as pools. Plus, with the homeowners association dealing with all the maintenance affairs, all you can do is enjoy.

Still afraid of the dark? I don’t blame you--it’s terrifying. But it’s nothing that the locked-down, buttoned-up security of a condo building can’t fix for you. With keyed entrances, on duty security, and security cameras, it’ll take an Ocean’s Eleven-type heist to get anywhere near your authentic Darth Vader replica costume. All that security leads to fewer break-ins and a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

Walk, bike, and ride public transportation around the city with a clear conscience. It won’t be your car emissions that’ll be body-slamming Mother Earth to death.

Unlike the death trappiness of a home, you’re never far from people in your condo building. This really pays off when you have an emergency--like that time you got your foot stuck in the toilet.

For those that hate mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, repainting the house, or doing other chores associated with homeownership, it simply makes more sense to live in a condo. Plus, smaller spaces doesn’t require much electricity, so the inexpensive utility bills are also a welcome advantage.

Convinced? Good. Do yourself a favor and sit back, relax, and rock a condo to the max with SM Supermall's SHOP & WIN PROMO, with 10 lucky shoppers winning 10 fully-furnished SMDC condominium units!
