The phenomenal young-adult tome “The Fault In Our Stars” penned by John Green is brought to life on the big screen produced by blockbuster producer Wyck Godfrey (“Twilight” films) and directed by Josh Boone (“Stuck In Love”). Written for the screen by the creative minds of Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (“500 Days of Summer,” Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”), “The Fault In Our Stars” features two of today’s most followed young actors – Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as extraordinary teenagers who fatefully meet and takes their love on an unforgettable and exhilarating journey into infinity.
A Fault In Our Stars
Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) is sixteen years old. She alternately loves and tolerates her sometimes over-doting parents. Hazel has developed a crushon a young man, Gus Waters (Ansel Elgort), who seems equally smitten with her. As they grow closer, Hazel and Gus share their fears that accompany their health issues, as well as their love of books, including Hazel’s touchstone, An Imperial Affliction. She has tried many times to get in touch with the book’s reclusive author Peter Van Houten (Willem Dafoe), to no avail. When Gus manages to reach Van Houten through the author’s assistant, it results, astonishingly, in an invitation to meet the writer in Amsterdam. Gus is determined to take Hazel on a journey that will answer every question she has ever had about the book that has meant so much to her.
Even before the novel was published, Hollywood came calling. But Green was reluctant to sell the movie rights. “I felt the story was so personal and close to me I just couldn’t imagine it being turned into a movie.”
Producer Wyck Godfrey was aware of the author’s reluctance. Having just produced the phenomenally successful Twilight series, based on the books by Stephenie Meyer, Godfrey and Marty Bowen, his partner at Temple Hill Entertainment, had become adept at recognizing literature that was ideal for screen adaptation. “We had been trying to find something that would speak to the next wave of young readers who were looking for something that was very real, and The Fault in Our Stars felt like the next step for young adult fiction.”
Godfrey approached Fox 2000 Pictures president Elizabeth Gabler, and together they moved quickly to secure the movie rights.“We got on the phone with John and convinced him we were the right people to turn the book into a film,” Godfrey recalls. Their mutual love of football (soccer) helped seal the deal. “I admitted to being a huge Liverpoolfan, and as luck would have it, so was John,” adds the producer.
Bonding over sports, aside, Green says that meeting Godfrey and the film’s executive producer (and Temple Hill Entertainment executive) Isaac Klausner, and hearing firsthand of the two filmmakers’ commitment to be faithful to the book’s themes and characters, convinced the author that they were the right people to bring the story to the big screen.
“One of the things Wyck said to me during those meetings was, ‘You didn’t write a cancer book, and we’re not going to make a cancer movie,’” Green remembers. “Wyck didn’t want the film to be sentimental or about learning to be grateful for every day. Wyck wanted the film to be raw, exciting and a celebration of life. And that’s exactly what I was looking for.
“I wanted the movie to be fun and something from which people would walk away feeling uplifted – that would capture the idea that a short life can be a good and rich one. Wyck and Isaac really believed those things, too.”
Two of the book’s legions of fans – screenwriters Scott Neustadter& Michael H. Weber – were pleased to come aboard and adapt Green’s novel. “The truth is we were fortunate to become involved with the project before the book became a worldwide sensation,” Neustadter explains. “At the time we read it, right before its publication, it was beloved…by us. The reaction to the book since then is fantastic – we hope the movie is embraced in the same way – but it was not an issue when we were adapting, beyond our strong feelings for it.”
A Fault In Our Stars
“Our goal was to preserve as much of the book as possible while making sure it’s a special cinematic experience,” adds Weber. “As with most books, the biggest challenge in that process is externalizing the internal voice of the book. John Green read our first draft and sent us the most wonderful email of support. When we work with an author of his caliber it means a lot to us that they approve of our adaptation.”
The decision to have Josh Boone direct was an easy one. Godfrey was a fan of Boone’s film Stuck in Love and had been tracking it since he had read the script. The film starred Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connolly and Lily Collins, but as Godfrey says, “It’s ultimately about the character of the teenage son,” played by Nat Wolff, who has a leading role in “The Fault In Our Stars.”
“It’s sort of autobiographical and you watch this kid come of age in a way that is funny, emotional and yet never pandering,” Godfrey explains.“It felt very real.”
Boone’s take on the movie was certainly ambitious. His pitch to the studio and producers: “This story is ‘Titanic’ and cancer is the iceberg we’re going to hit eventually. But the film cannot be about the iceberg; it has to be about the love story. It had to have real and special moments.”
John Green was a regular presence on the set, and according to Boone, the author’s input was invaluable. “John was terrific in helping us determine whether something was working,” says the director. “He’s not only a wonderful writer, he’s a great audience.”

Three women unexpectedly form a strong bond and decide to give a three-timing cheater what he deserves, in this very funny film which centers on the relationship between women – “The Other Woman.”
Life seems to be going well for Kate (Leslie Mann) and her husband Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) until Carly, the lawyer portrayed by Cameron Diaz, knocks on their door one day. Carly never suspects for a moment that Mark is lying to her – until the day he tells her he cannot make it for a date he had committed to. Realizing something is not right, she drives to the house where she thinks he lives alone and discovers that he has been deceiving her and is leading a double life. His wife Kate (Leslie Mann) answers the door. In fact, Mark is a triple-timer! He is also dating the lovely, unsuspecting Amber, played by Kate Upton.
Leslie Mann, who portrays suburban über-homemaker Kate, has, says producer Julie Yorn, “this archetypal suburban wife thing with just a little pathos under the surface that could come undone. We always thought there was an unexpected quality to this tightly wound character, and Leslie really made that come alive.”
Mann describes Kate as “Kate is a very optimistic person, who is excited about life and happy with her husband Mark. But she is living in a bubble. Her life is all about making her husband happy and I think she’s lost herself. Suddenly everything is completely turned upside down when she finds out that her husband is having an affair with Cameron Diaz’s character, Carly, who doesn't know that Mark is married. Her whole world falls apart. Carly and Kate discover each other’s existence and they join forces to figure out what Mark is up to. Then they find out he has a third mistress (Kate Upton) and they all come together. To figure out how they’re going to deal with the situation and come to grips with what’s happening, these women support Kate in a way that helps her to grow and to work through all the suffering she is going through. I had so much fun playing this character. I was in a good mood every day.”
Mann explains her synergy with Cameron and Kate by comparing it to music: “There are certain people who have an ear for comedy. It’s like a song and a rhythm, so when you’re doing comedy, if the other person isn’t hearing the same thing as you are, it just lays there and dies. Cameron hears the same thing as I do. We can pick up where the other one lets off and it’s like a good give-and-take. And Kate Upton has that, too. She knows how to play things and she’s super-smart.”
On her reel and real life roles, Mann says that “For me it is so much easier to go to work than it is to be at home. It is a lot of work running a home. When I’m not working, I’m raising my kids, keeping the house together and keeping our lives afloat. People who are doing that job are working their asses off. And raising kids is fun, but also hard. From the time they're born you don't sleep. You give up everything that you do for yourself, to give to your kids. That is a really great thing and it probably makes you a better person in a lot of ways, because you have to be selfless, but it's taxing.”
Leslie Mann’s comedic timing and standout performances captivate audiences and critics alike. She most recently starred opposite Paul Rudd in Judd Apatow’s “This Is 40.” Her other impressive film credits include “Knocked Up,” Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring” and lent her voice performance work in the Oscar® nominated “ParaNorman.” Mann also Carlos Saldanha’s animated blockbuster “Rio,” which garnered over $486 million worldwide and as well in “Rio 2.” Other notable movies include “The Change-Up,” “I Love You Phillip Morris,” “17 Again,” “Big Daddy,” “Little Birds,” “George of the Jungle,” “Timecode,” “She’s the One,” “Stealing Harvard,” “Drillbit Taylor,” “Orange County,” “Funny People” and “The 40 Year Old Virgin.”
A native of Southern California, Mann studied acting with the improv troupe the Groundlings whose alumni include most of the familiar faces in comedy today. One of her first big breaks was Ben Stiller’s “The Cable Guy”with Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick. While auditioning for the film she met future husband Judd Apatow. This film marked their first collaboration and the beginning of their creative professional partnership.
“The Other Woman” opens May 7 in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Pinoy 501st ride

The Philippines will join Star Wars fans all over the world (and galaxies far, far away) in celebrating Star Wars Day on May the 4th, 2014.
STARWARS maythe4th
Everyone is encouraged to greet anyone, `May the 4th Be With You’ or don their favorite Star Wars costume, speak Yoda-ese, watch a Star Wars movie, hum John Williams’ unmistakable score or wield their lightsavers, with matching voice-generated sound effects.
But for those who want more officially-organized events, they can troop down to Resorts World Manila in Pasay on May 3 and 4 where the Philippine Outpost of 501st Legion (an international organization of Star Wars fans who wear the costumes of the villains) has lined-up interactive festivities for the public and fans alike.
stormtroopers headgears
Starting at 4PM on May 3, members of the 501st Legion will hold a costume parade inside the mall, to be followed by public picture-taking opportunities – here’s your chance to have your photos taken with Darth Vader, the stormtroopers and other Star Wars baddies.
There will also be contests such as “Bring-Me Star Wars Items” game, a costume contest for kids and a trivia quiz for teens and adults. A display of Star Wars collectibles from Sideshow and Hottoys will likewise run from May 1 to 15.
Meanwhile, you may be asking, why is May the 4th Called Star Wars Day?
Say “May the 4th Be With You” out loud and you’ll hear the pun that Star Wars fans worldwide have turned into a rallying cry to proclaim their love of the saga. It’s the worldwide day to say “May the Force be with you” to all, and celebrate the beloved Star Wars story that binds our galaxy together.
One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm:
Friday, May 4th
Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,” further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.
Once the Internet allowed Star Wars fans around the world to connect with one another, May the 4th soon became a grassroots tradition each year, with fans online and offline proclaiming it “Star Wars Day.”
starwars costume photo_
While the idea of May the 4th did not start with Lucasfilm, the film company that created Star Wars has fully embraced the spirit of fandom that makes the day so special. The official blog at StarWars.com as well as the official Star Wars social media channels on Twitter (@starwars #StarWarsDay) and Facebook (facebook.com/starwars) help spread the word and showcase fan activity. More and more official partners have offered sales, giveaways and exclusives, and have hosted parties and other activities to mark the day.
May the 4th kicks off a season of celebration, particularly since the month of May has always been important to Star Wars fans. The six live-action movies of the Star Wars saga debuted in May (starting with the original Star Wars on May 25th, 1977) and this year, principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII will commence in May. The month also includes George Lucas’s birthday (May 14, 1944), and has been the traditional start date of the popular Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World Resort (this year, the fun begins on May 16th).

Liter of Light Street Lamp

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – On April 22, 2014, MyShelter Foundation, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), will mobilize volunteers in a solar lighting training workshop to commemorate Earth Day 2014.
From 9:00am to 11:00am, volunteers will train individuals on how to create solar street lamps using the Liter of Light technology, a low-cost, sustainable solar lighting solution built using locally available parts and simple carpentry skills. The training is organized in cooperation with the Earth Day Network, whose theme for Earth Day 2014 is “Green Cities.” Focused on buildings, energy, and transportation, three key areas to promote sustainable development, the Green Cities campaign aims to provide cities with the tools to transform into cleaner, healthier, and more economically vibrant places.
Liter of Light Street Lamps 2
The street lamps built during the training workshop will be used to illuminate foot bridges in the 17 cities of Metro Manila. The MMDA has identified these foot bridges as highly trafficked areas with very low light, putting many people at risk for harm.
The Liter of Light Earth Day 2014 training will be held in TESDA, East Service Road, South Superhighway, Taguig City. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP to Shalini Baxani (shalinibaxani@gmail.com, 0917-869-6299). Music industry’s most versatile talent, Nicki Minaj stars alongside Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the upcoming estrogen-filled comedy “The Other Woman.”
Minaj’s role channels a very vocal and fashion-forward assistant named Lydia who works for the stunning and tough New York lawyer Carly, played by Diaz whose boyfriend Mark (Waldau) turns out to be a married guy cheating on his wife, Kate (Mann). The two women don’t appear to have much in common, other than the philandering womanizer who has been tricking both of them. They become great pals, much to Lydia’s initial dismay, and decide to teach the lying Mark a few lessons to prove that cheating will not work. Everything becomes more complicated when Carly and Kate find out that the charming cheat has been engaging in yet another affair, with the beautiful Amber (Kate Upton) who is half his age. The three of them join forces and conjure up ingenious strategies to give Mark what he deserves, at the same time the bond between them grows stronger.
Nicki Minaj’s unexpected casting coup added something to the movie that producer Julie Yorn hadn’t counted on: “We all have a sense of Nicki’s persona and larger than life personality, but she came in with the most humble approach and attitude. She was dying to sit at the feet of these other women and learn.” We always wanted for the character of Lydia to be sassy,” Yorn continues. “But what was disarming about Nicki was her likability, which actually changed the scripted character. Lydia became a really important ally to Carly. That’s the chemistry part of it that you don’t expect. Cameron and Nicki bonded from day one and so you just get a whole different dynamic than anticipated.”
Minaj was a welcome surprise for director Nick Cassavetes, as well: “Lydia says things to Carly that are couched as truths, and that are really preposterous, but they have this unexpected truth that suggests sometimes the correct thing is to do the incorrect thing.”
According to Minaj, Lydia is very opinionated. “She has her own outlook on life and relationships, and you can’t change her mind about anything. She develops a real friendship with Carly. And Lydia really wants Carly to settle down and meet the right man. So she gets involved a little bit in bringing Mark down and getting Carly to fall in love with someone who’s a good person.”
Lydia is an important person in Carly’s life, because, says Minaj, “Lydia’s the friend that is going to give you tough love. I happen to be that kind of friend. I don’t like when my best friends are sad about a guy. I think all women need a friend who’s going to let us cry and mope, but we also need the friend that’s going to say, ‘Okay, pick it back up. Let’s go. You know, we’re not going to be walking around the office moping.’”
Patricia Field helms the movie’s costume design department and styling Nicki Minaj was another highlight for the designers. “It was really fun to get the chance to dress Nicki for this role,” says Field’s longtime collaborator and protégé Paolo Nieddu. “She’s the secretary, and the sexy secretary is an image everybody can imagine, so we went with almost a cartoon sexy secretary, with exaggerated colors and prints and lots of different accessories. Every day is a new Lydia. So you never know what you’re going to get with her.”
Lydia’s looks include high fashion, sexy, and body-conscious pieces that would fill the closet of a girl with a sugar daddy footing the bill. Some of her designer looks are by Gucci, Roland Mouret, Versace, Herve Leger, Proenza Schoeler, and McQueen – all paired with the most extreme, expensive designer shoes that only a diva could stand wearing to the office. Nicki Minaj, a noted fashion icon in her own right, was also thrilled to learn Field would be joining the team: “When I heard that Patricia Field was a part of this movie, I was very excited because I knew everybody would be eating their hearts out when they saw all the clothes we wear in this movie, and I knew it was going to be fresh and fun.”
Check out this funny and endearing story on (female) friendship when “The Other Woman” opens May 7 in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

MICHELIN Philippines Chief Representative Michael Nunag announced that starting June 2014 all of the new Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar, will be fitted with 245/35 R 20 MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport ultra-high performance tires. The new Volvos will be sold on four continents around the world.
The Polestar engineered cars are Volvo's fastest production cars ever and with their 350hp six cylinder turbocharged engines are able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

“The MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport tires suit the Volvo S60 and V60 very well and are capable of delivering the high levels of performance required for our cars.” Henrick Fries, Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar Project Manager said.
The MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport is Michelin's ultra-high performance road tire that is fitted to some of the world’s fastest supercars. The tire was developed using the knowledge and experience that Michelin has accumulated over many years of racing at the highest levels at events such as the LeMans 24 hours race – the Company’s tires have carried the winning cars over the finish line for the past 16 years in a row!
‘The MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport perfectly conveys the MICHELIN Total Performance strategy by combining excellent wet and dry grip performance along with high levels of safety and longevity’, says Anders Svensson, Michelin OE Commercial Account Manager. ‘And it was this combination of performance characteristics that Volvo was looking for to complement its new cars.’
To be able to offer this level of performance the MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport features a unique combination of three technologies: the Aramid fibre belt, the Bi-Compound tread band and the Variable Contact Patch 2.0.
Aramid is a high-tenacity fibre primarily used in aeronautics and protective military gear, whose key feature is its high strength and lightness. Strong and light at the same time, aramid is five times more resistant than steel at equivalent weight. Due to its variable tension, the belt is tighter in the tread area compared to the shoulders, centrifugal force is more effectively controlled and pressure is more evenly distributed.
Originally developed for race tires, Bi-Compound technology uses different rubber compounds on the left and right sides of the tread. On the outer shoulder, the tread compound contain a specific elastomer which ensures exceptional endurance during cornering, while on the inside, a different elastomer in the compound combines with a special tread design to enable the tire, on wet roads, to break through the water’s surface and adhere to even the slightest irregularities in the road.
The innovative feature of the Variable Contact Patch 2.0 is that it changes shape depending on actual driving conditions, thereby guaranteeing total vehicle control. In this way, even as the patch’s shape changes when cornering, the amount of rubber in contact with the road remains the same.
The MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport achieves a unique balance between safety and driving enjoyment that makes it suitable for everyday road use as well as the racetrack.
As a result the driver of a car equipped with MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport tires can relax and enjoy the experience, knowing that the tyres deliver maximum safety even in extreme conditions of use.

Fox Searchlight Pictures in association with Indian Paintbrush and Studio Babelsberg present, an American Empirical Picture, “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” directed and written by Wes Anderson and story by Anderson & Hugo Guinness. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori,F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson and Owen Wilson.

“The Grand Budapest Hotel’s” protagonist named Monsieur Gustave H, the fastidious concierge at the heart of the film, is portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, a two-time Oscar® nominee for “Schindler’s List” and “The English Patient.” Director Wes Anderson says his eighth feature film comes from a mix of inspirations including the pre-code comedies of the 1930’sand the stories and memoirs of Viennese writer Stefan Zweig. Anderson set his tale in a fictional spa town in the imaginary country of alpine Zubrowka, for which he created not only a complete visual aesthetic but also a cohesive 20th Century history mirroring Eastern Europe, with a fascist takeover in the thirties and a Communist period after that –but also a more distant past in the vein of the belle epoque.
At the beginning of the movie, the Young Writer played by Jude Law finds himself in conversation with the enigmatic Mr. Moustafa, the hotel’s owner, who sets about relating the story of how he rose from the ranks of junior lobby boy to become the proprietor of the Grand Budapest under the tutelage of Gustave.

Underneath all of Gustave’s superficial fastidiousness is a kind of basic emotional core, a devotedness, sentimentality and affection that provide much of the story’s emotional center. Observes co-star Edward Norton, whose character is in pursuit of Gustave: “Gustave is up there with the greatest characters Wes has created and nobody could have played it more perfectly than Ralph. Gustave is contradictory – he has this incredibly haughty self-righteous view of proper values and at the same time he is ferociously loyal. He’s like a glimpse into an old world right before it disappears.”
The main action of the story kicks off with the sudden and mysterious death of 84-year-old dowager countess Madame Céline Villeneuve Desgoffe und Taxis, a.k.a. Madame D. In the role of Madame D. is Tilda Swinton, who won an Oscar® for her work in “Michael Clayton.” For this part, Swinton had to spend almost five hours each morning in hair and makeup in preparation to play the 84-year-old widow. Anderson notes, “With Tilda, we had this chance to age her, and I think she really enjoyed doing that, and helped make it something special. I feel like she really latched on to how to play this person at that age.”
Madame D.’s death sets in motion a scramble to lay claim to her vast fortune. Leading the charge is her son, Dmitri, the film’s ruthless and darkly comic main villain, played by Adrien Brody, who previously starred in “The Darjeeling LImited.: “He’s the bad seed, he’s the one who causes the trouble – and he was really wonderful in this role of Dmitri,” says Anderson.
Brody says of the character: “Dmitri is powerful and greedy, a man used to getting what he wants. M. Gustave is a threat to this. It is revealed that he was the much younger lover of his mother, who she ultimately bequeathed her fortune to, so wouldn’t you have it in for him? Everything about Dmitri is dark: his clothes, hair, thoughts and attitude. The beauty of comedy is that you can heighten all of these qualities to the point where they become amusing. The objective was to find a balance between being legitimately ominous and also hilarious – Dmitri had to be both.”
Dmitri also has an accessory: a henchman named Jopling, a thug in a leather coat, brass-knuckles and high-heeled boots, who is portrayed by Willem Dafoe. Dafoe says that despite his previous work with Anderson, the script for “The Grand Budapest Hotel” was surprising. “I thought it was really interesting, almost a throwback to Lubitsch and Wilder comedies, with a caper quality and all these characters coming in and out,” he says. “Wes captures a spirit that is so appealing.”
It didn’t surprise Dafoe that the script attracted such a strong and award-winning cast. “It’s unusual in today’s cinema for a director to have the heavy personal stamp Wes does so a lot of people want to work with him,” he explains. “It makes for an extremely creative atmosphere.”
Playing Deputy Vilmos Kovacs, the attorney representing Madame D’s estate, is Jeff Goldblum, who previously worked with Anderson on “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.” Goldblum highlights some of the cultural and political elements at work in the film:“Monsieur Gustave is a rare and spectacular light of hope and inspiration – courteous, generous and refined – in this world in which fascists are coming to power,” he says. Indeed, Dmitri and his cohort are headed down a path toward fascism, and this is one of the elements that flesh out the antagonism between him and Monsieur Gustave.
Norton also points to some of the unique behind-the-scenes camaraderie on the production. “I think for a lot of actors in my generation, Wes has been a kind of polestar of personal creative vision. He does something that is uniquely heartfelt, yet hilarious. Wes’s films are a lot like this story in that they create an alternative kind of family, which is very romantic for actors. The cast is a blend of some of Wes’s old gang with a new gang and there was great camaraderie. It was almost like he cultivated among the cast and the crew the feeling of The Society of the Crossed Keys – the concierges of all the great hotels of the world – who have this complete sense of unity when called upon.”
When the law does catch up with Gustave, he finds himself in the least imaginable of places for a man of his sensibilities: Check-point 19 Criminal Internment Camp, a dank, medieval-era prison, surrounded by barbed wire and a moat full of crocodiles. He soon befriends four fellow inmates and winds up at the center of an elaborate escape plot they’ve cooked up. The brains of the plot is Ludwig, an especially rough, tattooed convict with a bald head, played by Harvey Keitel, who also appeared in “Moonrise Kingdom,” and for whom Anderson wrote the part.
"The Grand Budapest Hotel" will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting April 19 (Black Saturday).

French actress Louise Bourgoin proves that diamonds aren’t just the best friends a woman can have in the upcoming romantic comedy caper “The Love Punch.”
Starring opposite screen luminaries Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson as the divorced Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Kate Jones. Louise’s character named Manon is an unhappy married woman to a very accomplished business tycoon Vincent (played by French actor Laurent Lafitte). Their paths meet when Richard (Brosnan) finds out that the company he’s been working for had been fraudulently bought and that his and Kate’s along with the other employees’ pension fund had also been taken.
Richard and Kate must do everything to get back what was stolen from them…following the tracks of the evil man behind the company’s buyout led them to Manon who finds life miserable amidst the riches given to her and finally finds her true self when she meets Kate (Thompson), who introduces herself first as a distant relative only to steal back the diamond Manon’s husband gave her.

Both French actors enjoyed shooting in English. "You can play with the language much more", Louise Bourgoin remarks. "Word stress is very important in English and gives pace to sentences, which is a treat for an actor. But then again, it may get perfunctory after a while, and so we worked with a dialogue coach to acquire a certain accent and enjoy the same freedom we have in French. At the beginning, when I stressed certain words, I thought I was overacting but the truth is, everyone acts like this!"

Emma Thompson enthuses on the two French actors – Louise Bourgoin as the ravishing Manon and Laurent Lafitte as the shameless businessman who ruins Richard. Emma Thompson can't praise them enough: "They're full of ideas, zest and spirit", she enthuses. "It's very  unusual to meet beautiful actors who are also that funny and who can do the straight acting as well. The point about this work, I think, is you have to able to act very, very well in order to do something that appears not to require any acting. It's got to do with this lightness of touch and both Louise and Laurent have that in spades".
louise bourgoin in_ THE LOVE PUNCH
Louise Bourgoin explains she was impressed with the originality and ambition of the script. "Joel Hopkins's script is pretty bold and several scenes could seem unrealistic at first glance, but they blend in seamlessly and they perfectly make sense in the story", she remarks. "There's also a screwball quality to it that I enjoyed and that is a real departure from the gritty, realistic dimension of French movies". The actress portrays Manon, a young romantic idealist who's just about to lose her illusions… "In the beginning, she's a young woman whose destiny is all laid out for her – just like Grace Kelly, she's about to marry a multi-billionaire prince!", she quips. "But the guy is actually an embezzler and when she finds out, she turns out to be a free-spirited, selfless soul. The truth is she feels she doesn't belong there and she eventually rediscovers her true self through her meeting with Kate".
Manon's clothes also say a lot about her personality. "When I read the script, I saw her as a Beverly Hills-like upstart, on the gaudy and showy side", she goes on. "Now, the filmmakers asked me to hark back to movies from the 1950s and 60s and to try to look like Audrey Hepburn. What Joel had liked about me when I met him for an audition was the fact that I came in a trench coat, with my hair in a bun and a very 'French' look, and he wanted me to remain elegant like that throughout the film. So I had to wear waisted dresses going knee length, glasses and a wide-brimmed hat. I thought it was more interesting than if I had had to wear more contemporary outfits, which would have dated the movie much more".
“The Love Punch” opens in cinemas nationwide on April 19 (Black Saturday) from Axinite Digicinema with media partners Inquirer Group, 105.1 Crossover and GNN (Global News Network).

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is up to the job as the ultimate ‘despicable’ womanizer in “The Other Woman” starring alongside Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.
Nikolaj plays Mark, a suave and sophisticated man who is every girl’s dream – and is seeing the equally beautiful and powerful lawyer Carly (Diaz). But after Carly discovers that Mark is a married man, she tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidentally meets the wife he’s been cheating on (Leslie Mann), she realizes they have much in common, and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair is discovered (Kate Upton), all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on their cheating, lying, three-timing sob.
In the role of charismatic liar Mark King, “Game of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, surprised everyone with his comedic chops. Producer Julie Yorn notes: “We just got incredibly lucky with Nikolaj. We knew he certainly had the dash and good looks to be the leading man, but he came in and did this one scene where he comes undone and it was unbelievable.”
Writer Melissa Stack notes that, “Nikolaj was able to be vicious and charming in the span of ten seconds and that’s talent and also a lot of hard work, preparation and thought. He has some really tricky bits of business where he has to be the captivating snake, which is not an easy thing.”
The Danish actor sparked to playing the seductive bad guy for whom karmic repercussions are, well, a bitch. But the actor doesn’t see Mark as a cartoon cad. “I think Mark loves his wife,” says Coster-Waldau. “He and Kate have been together a long time, and I think in his mind he treats her really well. I don’t think it’s unusual to meet a guy who believes that because he takes home a lot of money, it gives him the right to have a bit of fun on the side. It’s just pure instinct. What can Mark do? He can’t stop himself. He believes himself to be a good guy.” He continues, “Mark likes to fall in love, and I think the problem with a guy like that is he falls in love with himself falling in love.”
On working with Patricia Field who helmed the costume for the movie, Nikolaj notes that “My personal style is as far removed from Mark’s as you can imagine, but it was a lot of fun working with Patricia. She is a wonderful lady. She has this husky voice. It was a privilege to get to work with her and her whole team. I've never worn anything as expensive as I wore in this film. There was a costume change for every scene basically, because Mark is one of those people who needs everyone to see how expensive his clothes are. Those suits were really exquisite and you could tell the quality. It was very important to the character that the wealth was shown, so he would wear Tom Ford suits. He would drive the most expensive car; I drove a light blue Aston Martin Convertible. It was beautiful, I enjoyed it. And I love dressing up. That's part of my job. It's what builds character and clearly Mark needed those really sharp suits. But in my own life I wear jeans and a tee shirt. It's very basic. I put on whatever is at the top of the pile and then once every two weeks I'll turn the tee shirt pile over so I don't just use the same one. It's boring. But I like it, it is comfortable.”
A graduate of the National Theater School in Denmark, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is best known for his starring role as Jaime Lannister in the massively successful TV series, “Game of Thrones.” About to enter its fourth season, it was nominated for an Emmy in 2011. In 2001, Nikolaj starred in Ridley Scott’s multi Oscar winning drama “Black Hawk Down,” which was followed by “Enigma.” His films include “Kingdom of Heaven,” “Wimbledon,” “Firewall,” “Headhunters,” “Night Watch,” “Rembrandt,” and “Blekingegade,” a high-profile Danish mini-series. Recent projects include Guillermo Del Toro’s “Mama” and “Oblivion” with Tom Cruise.
It’s a date with your girls when “The Other Woman” opens May 7 in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
