Filipino Students Gained Valuable Experience from SCG International Internship in Thailand

SCG, one of the leading business conglomerates in ASEAN, recently offered a one-month international internship program in Thailand to students from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. Aimed to provide participants cross-cultural working experience and exclusive development opportunities at SCG, the program selected 45 of the best participants from the six ASEAN countries.

Mr. Phaskorn Buranawit, Country Director of SCG in the Philippines, disclosed that “this international internship encouraged the student to instill SCG's core values and business philosophy of adhering to fairness, dedication to excellence, believing in the value of the individuals and concern for social responsibility.”

“Apart from the four core values, the internship also helped them to think differently, learn new things, be creative and innovative, and good governance, equipping them to become a driving force behind the development of their country in the years to come,” he added.

Christine Sta. Romana, a third year student at the University of Sto.Tomas said, her experience as an HR intern gave her an overview on how the real business world works.  “To be honest, it has always been my dream to work in an international organization and the SCG International Internship helped me further understand differences in people and their culture.” 

Ynna Abigail Olvida, a third year student at the University of the Philippines Dilliman also shared that SCG International Internship program is one of the best experiences a student could have in his or her undergraduate life. “SCG gave us a once in a lifetime opportunity and allowed us to grow and go beyond our comfort zones. It was a holistic experience that crafted us into a better version of ourselves.”

The five delegates handpicked from the Philippines were Jay Paul Tena of Adamson University, Christine Angel Sta. Romana of University of Santo Tomas, Ynna Abigail Olvida of University of the Philippines Dilliman, and Daryll Tobias and Ellaine Bobadilla of Bulacan State University.

Through this program, SCG also intends to provide international work experience, good ethical practices, expertise in its core business units as well as the opportunity in socializing a new set of skills of today’s workforce including the ability of quick adaptation inside the work environment that full of cultural diversity. Beside SCG International Internship, the company also annually hosts SCG Sharing the Dream in the Philippines in order to support higher education for 300 students who demonstrates strong passion to pursue their dream and gratefulness to their parents and communities.
