MANNY PACQUIAO NAMED AS NEW GVCF ASIAN AMBASSADOR IN FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER
A Press Conference was held last February 28, 2013, whose primary intention is to inform the people that there are food waiting to be distributed that is now detained in the Bureau of Customs and is calling the President Mr. Noynoy Aquino to help them in their effort for the victims of typhoon Pablo especially in Mindanao.
Actor Cesar Montano is calling the President to help the group/ foundation to somehow order release to the foods that are in the container for at least a week now. This time hopefully, things will be light and easy on this foundations that are willing to give their all for the less fortunates and victims of any tragedy especially here in Asia and the Philippines.
Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao has fought many battles in his life. This time the “Pambansang Kamao” has joined hands with the world’s largest feeding program to knock out World hunger.
Pacquiao was recently named Asian Good Will Ambassador by the Global Village Champions Foundation that arrived in the Philippines for a humanitarian missions for the victims of Super Typhoon Pablo in the Southern Philippine Island of Mindanao.
Leading the GVCF feeding program and relief efforts in the Philippines are former world Heavyweight Champion Evander Holy Field and Canadian philanthropist Yank Barry, Chairman and Founder of GVCF and a 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Finalist
Over the last 15 years GVCF has provided 60 million meals as well as medical supplies , blankets, clthing and hospital equipment to the needy in the Philippines. They are getting ready to provide 2 million meals in aid to the provinces hardest struck by the typhoon in Sarangani and Compostela Valley . They are also shipping in 10,000 tubes of a food in a tube for children under the age of 5, supplying them a full day’s replacement of nutritional value together with the 2 million meals. This is just the beginning, the first step in the efforts to reach out to the Pablo victims.
“I would like to thank Evander HolyField and Yank Barry for personally coming to the Philippines, especially to my province to help me feed the typhoon victims and the needy”, said Pacquiao, whho is also serving as the congressman of Sarangani, one of the typhoon-affected areas.
An Asian Ambassador Manny Pacquiao joins other Global Village Champions that includes boxing legend Muhammad Ali, Multi-award singer Celine Dion, Basketball great Michael Jordan and Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
GVCF is presently conducting screenings and have identified malnutrition as one of the biggest problems in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental, the 2 most heavily affected provinces
Typhoon Pablo ranks as the most destructive typhoon ithat hits the Philippines in the recent memory, causing damage estimated at Php 42.2 billion (US $ 1.055 billion). More than 1000 people lost their lives. Survivors have to contend with malnutrition, economic devastation and displacement in their communties.
