Lenovo presents Lenovo LAN School and Stoneware WebNetwork solutions at latest CIO Roundtable

Manila, Philippines: Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY), along with partners Intel and Absolute Software, affirmed during a recent CIO Roundtable that the borderless classrooms and offices without walls are indeed now upon us.

During the forum, Lenovo and its partners presented the Lenovo LAN School and the Stoneware webNetwork solutions. Both Lenovo solutions are powered by Absolute Software’s device management and tracking technology which allows IT administrators to manage a range of mobile products in a single platform.

The Lenovo LAN school is a classroom management software that allows teachers to monitor classroom activity, block unnecessary websites, and assess student learning in real-time. The system uses smartphones, phablets, tablets and laptops in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom setting, while Stoneware webNetwork allows users to access files, applications, reports from individual devices, and public & private clouds in a Unified Cloud.

Lenovo and its partners also discussed software and hardware issues of mobile environments in the context of the Philippines’ rising smartphone adoption and mobile application1. Lenovo Philippines Country General Manager Michael Ngan said, “The PC Plus era is in full swing. With the prevalence of PC Plus devices like convertibles, tablets, and smartphones, more small medium businesses (SMBs) and enterprises are adopting a location-agnostic work culture. There is a surge in demand for PC Plus gadgets in corporations. Lenovo has been addressing this through a slew of solutions for the PC Plus space in partnership with Intel and Absolute Software.”

Coping with the challenges of device management in enterprises

Harry Lau, an Absolute Software representative, noted that monitoring mobile devices simultaneously is a business challenge faced by mobile environments: “A single person can have three or four mobile devices. If you want to maintain good governance of your IT environment, you need to know what's happening to those devices, where they are being used, how they are being used, and who are using them.”

Absolute Software supports workplace mobility through its monitoring software, device management technology, and adaptable systems that cater to the Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance (GRC) product business. Absolute Software helps turn organizations’ productivity ‘down’ time into ‘found’ time.

New hardware for mobile environments

Apart from offering software solutions, Lenovo drives  growth and innovation by expanding into new form factors and device categories to support workplace mobility. Just recently, Lenovo launched the ThinkPad Helix and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch to further amplify their competitive line-up of products. The ThinkPad Helix is a convertible that blends the portability of a tablet with the productivity of a PC while the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch is a business ultrabook, which has a thin and light design, enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity, and a long battery life. Both laptops feature cloud-computing capabilities that are fit for ‘road warriors’ and the highly mobile Filipino doers of today.

“With security features such as the Fingerprint Reader, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and BIOS encryption, as well as a slew of data management features, Lenovo’s mobile solutions make executives location agnostics,” said Steven Cheng, Product Manager, Lenovo ASEAN.

With such devices and solutions in place, Lenovo is well positioned to meet the challenges in workplace mobility, a point echoed by Jermyn “Wowie” Wong, Market Development Manager, Intel Microelectronics Philippines, Inc. “As we move on from today, Lenovo’s innovative products, complimented with high performance Intel Core based processors, are well placed to make an ever bigger difference in addressing new concerns on mobility. The ThinkPad Helix and ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch are great examples of how two-in-one form factors help to address the mobility trend and workplace mobility.”
