More than Six  months ago, the Municipality of Tanauan Leyte suffered greatly from the wrath of typhoon Yolanda. The storm claimed the lives of over 1200 people and left thousands more homeless and distraught. With the difficult tasks of rebuilding families and starting anew, innocent school children lost classrooms and eventually missed out classes for the remainder of the school year.
On line job portal, jobsDB Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Education, ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), and the Manila Bulletin, is scheduled to travel to the province of Leyte this June to complete its backpack to school campaign- a drive aimed at helping elementary school children get ready to go back to school and “rewrite” their future.
With jobsDB’s “Backpack to school” Campaign, these children will now have the chance to resume their education and continue their journey to become valuable. The campaign coincides with Tanauan’s slow yet steady progress towards recovery .In a month, Leyte will have its first harvest since super- typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan)  hit the province.
Ms. Sheryll Tiburcio, General Manager of jobsDB Philippines expressed her thanks to the employers that extended their assistance in making the “Backpack to School”  campaign a success.  “ We at jobsDB Philippines want to give people a chance to live better lives, not just by providing them with jobs but also with opportunities to help them prepare for a better future. What better way for us to do this than by starting with the school children of Tanauan , Leyte. This campaign is our way of paying it forward. We thank our client companies for their support and with their continued assistance, the people can expect more campaigns similar to this in the future.”
The campaign is also made possible with the support of hundreds of local brands responding to jobsDB’s call for support. This June, their assistance will finally come to fruition as jobsDB journeys to Tanauan Central Elementary School to personally deliver and distribute about 2000 school bags and school supplies to eager and excited children of Leyte.
The distribution of school bags and the school supplies will be on June, 02, 2014, 9am at the Tanauan I Central Elementary school grounds. Mrs. Felicitacion Pajelleno, school principal, and Tanauan Elementary School’s faculty and staff will join the DepEd officials headed by Education Program Supervisor, Juan B. Mitra, during the event. Honorable Congressman Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, First District of Leyte Representative. Honorable Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla, Governor of Leyte Ms. Sheryll Tiburcio, General Manager of jobsDB Philippines , and Oliver Ramos , Marketing Manager of jobsDB Philippines, are also expected to grace the handover ceremony.
